Narrative, Tension, Context

1)b) This graph is a representation of a video game titled Halo Reach. The game follows the story of you the player along with 5 other trusted companions. Each of the four peaks and declines in the graph represent the deaths of one of the 5 characters that were pivotal in the games story. The tension decline all the way to the bottom and ceases at the end of the story once you the character, die.
c) The game builds a relationship with you as a player by having you understand and relate to each characters position in the story. Each characters death in the story is portrayed emotionally and creates a real sense of loss with you as the player.

b) This graph is a representation of the last book of the harry potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows.  When the book reveals that Harry is one of the 7 Horcroxes the reader is surprised. As they search for the 7 horcroxes it is revealed that in order for Voldemort's fall the horcroxes must be destroyed. This creates a problem along the way because Harry himself is a horcrox. The rising action was when dobby was killed during the escape from Malfoy's mansion and when Hogwarts was attacked by Voldemorts dark army. The climax was the final fight between Harry and voldemort. When it is revealed that voldemort has been slain the reader wonders what has happened to Harry. This is cleared in the falling action when it is revealed that Harry was alive.
c) The book had some emotional roller coasters along the way. They Had dobby killed who was prior part of the whole Harry Potter series. They showed Ron being stabbed and people were emotional about this because he was one of the few characters that gave comedy to the series.

b) In the movie Captain America the winter soldier, There are many major action sequences that cause rises in tension. The movie begins at a quick pace and displays a fight scene between Captain America and a deadly terrorist. The movie continues to display tension when Captain America's trusted organization S.H.E.I.L.D. turns on him, resulting in a nation wide manhunt. Later on the Captain comes face to face with the winter soldier who turns out to be a brainwashed and manipulated Bucky Barnes, Captain America's once close and best friend. The climax of the story unfolds with the two once close friends fighting each other too the death. At the end of the story, the tension does not fully disappear as the Captain heads out to find his lost friend who recognizes the Captain, but does not fully remember who he is and why he is here.
c) The story, from the beginning to the climax has viewers emotionally connected to the main character Captain America, or Steve Rogers. Viewers that saw the first Captain America movie would remember who Bucky Barnes was and would also become emotionally distraught and confused as to why he appears again, but as an enemy.

2. a) The context that was aimed at African American's was that every human being has a right to live freely on this planet. This right couldn't be taken by anyone regardless of what race you were because MLK meant to signify that all people of all color's were the same. His message to the African American people was that they need not fear other races and that they should learn to live in harmony with them.
The context that was said to Caucasian American's was that they should stop taking the freedom of his nation people and that everyone on this planet as an individual are the same. Just because your different in color doesn't mean you are different from anyone else. He also wanted to say that Caucasians are also a race just like they were and to signify what their situation would have been if African Americans did this to them.
b) MLK's message must have been with open arms and rejoice because an African American was at the fore front in order to fight for his peoples rights. Possible emotions that may have been stirred are emotions of relief, happiness and joy, but at the same time sadness and distraught for the ones who could not make it to see that promising day. The message was of the upmost importance to the African American Community because MLK represented a true and honest voice for the people.

MLK'S message to Caucasian American's was probably received in a guilty and ignorant way. They must have felt guilty and shameful of themselves as individual's on the actions they committed. Emotions of guilt, shame and sadness must of been felt for all the lives that were taken during this sad period of time. Some Caucasians were probably even against this message and took its interpretation in the wrong way.

Narrative And Context

Tutorial 3 : Computers And Media

1) a) Some of the artists that were using traditional approaches were Michael Jackson and Prince.    These artists made CD records, did concerts and had record labels. They were successful because they did world wide concerts and had radio stations play some of their songs. Most people who heard these songs started searching for the artists who sang them. Michael Jackson was also an amazing dancer, so when he did concerts people not only went to hear his songs but also to watch him dance.People then started to buy CD's to hear the songs at their own time at home. They also had many advertisements on T.V and radio stations to publicize there upcoming songs and concerts.

b) Some artists who use iTunes and cloud sharing to distribute there song are Drake and Nicki Minaj. These artists were successful because they allowed for people to listen to their music for free on popular social medias such as Facebook and youtube. They announced through twitter and other social medias on their upcoming songs so people could listen to them as soon as it came out. Many of these artists today even go around on world wide concert tours which enable their fans to see them in person. A lot of people who listened to these free songs started liking them and started going to their concerts. As time progressed more and more fans started listening to their songs. This is because fans would be sharing these songs through Facebook and other social medias.

2) a) One video game that was Non-Linear was inFamous. This game allowed the player to decide whether he wanted to be evil or good throughout the game. Throughout the game the player would have to decide whether he wanted to commit a evil action or good action which then influenced his karma. If the player chose evil throughout the game then the ending would be different from the good side. This game was widely popular when it came out and even received at 9.5 rating on most gaming critics.

b) One video game that was linear that didn't work was Big Rigs: Over the road racing. This game was a total flop because you only do one thing throughout the game whatever mission it was. Most people stopped playing it after there second try because it was so repetitive.

Out of both these video games inFamous was a wide hit while Big Rigs was a complete disaster. This is probably because inFamous was one of the very first games to use the concept of a Non-Linear theme to a video game. It allowed for the users playing it to play the game at least twice; one on the good side and one on the bad side. Big Rigs was to straightforward with no action and had to many bugs. Video games tend to be more interesting if there is one or more way to finish the game, like games that have recently come out such as Destiny.

3) a) Books compared to TV, Films and video games incorporates context through senses and imagination. The reader pictures what the author is saying in his head and visualizes what is going on. To each reader the image that is produced in his head will differ. TV, Films and video games show the same context to each person; there is no difference because there is already a visual.

b) The side effects of these requirements are that some people unfortunately are blind and therefore cant read books. This doesn't usually matter with TV, Films and video games because they can listen to what's going on and picture the image in their heads.
